Otter, MT, often has high fire danger and is far from firefighting services. We prefer you do not smoke. If you must smoke, do it outdoors with a container of water for all ashes and cigarette butts. Directions
There is basically no cell service for the last 60 plus miles to our house from any direction. Additionally, the GPS location for our address is NOT accurate. Save a copy of these directions to follow to get to our ranch. If you have any trouble, feel free to stop at any of the few houses along the gravel road as they all know us and can direct you to our place. The gravel roads eat tires so be sure you have a spare and know how to put it on.
From the NORTH:
BILLINGS, MT
From Billings, take I-90 East for about 50 miles. Get gas in Billings or Hardin along the way. You will have no cell coverage after you leave I-90 so save these directions. Take 212 East at the Little Big Horn Battlefield. Go through Busby, Lame Deer, and Ashland. About 3 miles after Ashland, turn RIGHT on Otter Creek Rd / Hwy 484.
RAPID CITY, SD
From Rapid City, head Northwest through Belle Fourche to Broadus, MT. From Broadus, we are about 70 miles, 1.5 hr. This is the last place to get gas. Head West on 212 for about 40 miles. Then turn LEFT on Otter Creek Rd. Hwy 484.
After about 20 miles on Otter Creek Rd., the pavement ends. Continue straight. It is 13 more miles. Stay right at the intersection of Otter Creek Rd. Pass the Otter, MT, Post Office on your right and then stay straight / right at the intersection of Bear Creek Rd. Head up Tooley Creek. When you get to Boyce Rd. / our mailbox, turn right. We are the first house on the right, white with a red roof, about 1/2 mile. The Boyce Place Bunkhouse is 1 ¼ miles past our house.
From the SOUTH:
SHERIDAN, WY
This is the last place for gas, groceries, cell service, etc.
Take the farthest West Sheridan exit, Decker Hwy WY 338. You will cross the MT line in about 14 miles and the hwy becomes MT 314 (although I don’t know that there are any signs). Anyway, about 20 miles from Sheridan you will come to a slow speed zone (30 MPH) and cross railroad tracks. Immediately after the railroad tracks, turn RIGHT on a gravel road (Decker-Otter Road, not sure if there is a sign). You will now go 35 miles on gravel to our house. Within the first mile, you will cross the Tongue River bridge, pass the NX bar turn off (stay straight / left), and pass the Coal Mine entrance with the giant dragline green and red bucket (stay straight/ Right). After about 20 miles, you will come to “The Forks”. Stay left. Pass the OW Ranch. In another 3 miles, you will come to “The Y”, where there is a sign board with lots of names. You will see Patrick Lohof – 10 miles. Fork Left. After another 6 miles, you will pass the Lee Creek Rd. Stay straight / right. 3-4 miles you will come to Boyce Rd and our mailbox. Turn left. Our house is about 1/2 mile on the right, white with red roof. The Boyce Place Bunkhouse is 1 ¼ miles past our house.
