Summer is in full swing and LOHOF Grass-Finished BEEF is as busy as ever. After a mild winter, we were happy to receive good April rains. Now we are in the heat of summer and are extremely thankful for the stock tank water lines and electric cross-fencing that we completed last year. Our family is well and our family of interns continues to grow.
Sheridan Farmers’ Market ~ This marks our 7th season at the Downtown Sheridan Farmers’ Market on Grinnell! We are there every Thursday through September with beef, lamb, and honey, and will be part of the Oct. 7, 2016, grand Gala and Fall Festival. We also had meat and honey at the Landon’s Farmers’ Market on Saturdays all spring and plan to do so again in the Fall and Winter once the Downtown Markets end. Hope to see you there! Also, look for our Beef at the Good Health Emporium, Golden Rule Grocers, Sackett’s Market, Story Store, and online at Montana Meat Co.
Rangeland Improvements ~ Last summer we installed 12 miles of wildlife-friendly electric cross-fencing to go along with our additional stock water tanks. This summer we are implementing our grazing management plan and are very pleased with how great the cattle look. We can also tell that the elk appreciate our efforts as they spent much of last winter on our ranch! They are majestic to watch when they aren’t loping through fencing. We also got a mixed breed brown egg special on chicks this spring so look for the best eggs ever this fall, as the chickens scatter manure and clean up weed seeds.
Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) ~ As of our spring 2016 audit, our beef has been AWA and Certified Grassfed for 2 years now. They had a nice article highlighting our ranch on page 22 of their recent Sustainable Farming newsletter. We encourage you to look for AWA products and feel this organization is very dedicated to helping producers farm and ranch responsibly and offering consumers a meaningful label.
Interns ~ We want to offer sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all of the 20 plus interns we have hosted over the last several years. They become very much a part of our family, and we certainly learn as much or more from them as they from us. Some of the pictures below include them and if ever you are seeking dedicated workers and outstanding people, we would be delighted to put you in touch with some! Only the best come to Otter, MT.
RANCH TOUR ~ Saturday, August 6, 2016, 10am Tour the cattle and range and then join us for beef. Bring your family, a dish to pass, and the spirit of summer. RSVP by Aug. 3rd for directions. If you can’t make the tour date, our doors are always open. We welcome a visit anytime but call ahead because you WILL need directions!
Coming Soon ~ We are working on organic smokehouse products such as sausage, jerky, and hot dogs as well as a custom label. We will keep you posted as NEW products become available!
You can find updated Prices and Order forms on our Products Page (in Word & PDF), and a Fact Sheet about how we raise our beef. Bulk Beef prices are the same as last year, and we also have a limited amount of LAMB for sale! Hopefully you continue to find our prices for grass-fed and -finished all natural beef competitive and reasonable. We truly appreciate all the support you have shown us over the years, and the friendships that have developed. We also thank you for passing our information on to your friends.
Colorado Orders ~ Please order by Sept. 1st for late October/early November Denver and CO Springs delivery
As always, bulk beef orders are reserved upon receipt of a deposit. Most of our processing is in the autumn. All of last year’s bulk beef was sold prior to processing so we encourage you to contact us as soon as you can. We look forward to providing you with delicious, all natural, well-raised, grassfed beef and thank you for all the effort you put forth on your end!
All the best,
Christy, Patrick, Hans, and Reavis Lohof
